Camping in the great outdoors be clearly at the mercy of weather, which can always change.

The First concern for comfort and, indeed, survival, be Shelter . . . . .  and Shelter begins with Clothing.

Having Layers of clothing available is the best way to stay warm, dry or cool.

The outermost layer should be rain gear of the best quality ye might afford, such as a 'thinsulate' type
of parka with snug hood and armholes.

. . . and don't forget a supply of clean, white socks!  I prefer cotton but in extreme cold, wool over cotton,
a double layer.

I totally agree. Being prepared with good, comfortable clothing and shelter is essential not only for enjoyment, but also for real survival.

I like to where sock liners - to wick the sweat away from my foot, and then have a cotten/polyester blend on the outside.  Same thing with my undershirt: rayon or nylon undershirt, with a polly/cotten outer, then cover with a light sweater and wind-breaking shell.

In addition to your clothing comments - I recommend people try a hammock tent or chair and see if they like it.

Hammock tents and shelters have come a long way in providing small, lightweight comfort and effectiveness, especially in bad weather and hillside terrain, where a tent could not be setup.

One product you have to check out is the Amazing Wilderness Camp Chair, at http://www.canada-camps.ca they have videos to show you how to build one, or you can buy one off their web site.

There are also a bunch of videos on hammock tenting and shelters.

Enjoy camping in Canada!
