Great ideal to start your campfire.

Sounds like there's a lot of ways to start a campfire. I've heard the cotton balls with vaseline works well.

We always bring a charcoal grill with us.  It's not exactly the "purist" way,  but we use charcoal.  Either left over from cooking,  or we'll start coals in the chimney and then add kindling.

I wish I would have come across this sooner, using dryer lint and dryer sheets is a GREAT idea! While doing the laundry is in no way a family leisure activity the way camping is, I can now convince my kids that doing the laundry will help is in the long run. I was just throwing all that stuff away and now I have a use for it. I can't wait to see the other great ideas I can "borrow" from this forum!

Not very esoteric but since I camp in areas with lots of pine cones, that and crumpled newspaper works fine for me.
I also throw the burning charcoal leftover from dinner into the firepit as a starter.
I can't say more goodness about a chimney starter either.

My husband is an experienced camper and I am just learning.  He is really good about doing everything, but I am trying to get my own experience to add to his so we can be a team outdoors.  I love the idea of dryer lint being used for starting fires.  I practice starting a fire in our fire pit and it has worked great.   We have outdoor Furniture  on our patio, is there some that campers can use?

The MAC company and Coleman Deluxe chairs get good reviews for portability and comfort.  The ROLL-A_TABLE company offers tables and stools that are sturdy and yet break down as small as a sleeping pad.  Ours are still in regular use over 33 years later!

I have to agree with cmancamper. I was at a flag retirement and they were having trouble getting a fire started in a light rain. Once they brought some hot charcoals over the fire was roaring in no time.

Yes, some people use dryer lint mixed with wax or cotton balls mixed with vaseline as campfire starters.  Some people like to use those little film containers store them.  Nice recycling idea.

I often use dryer lint moistened with a bit of petroleum jelly. Of course, never forget the Zippo lighter.
